Visy Logistics is making a name for itself as a partner of choice for Australian steel businesses. Backed by decades of industrial logistics experience and a national footprint, Visy Logistics delivers tailored solutions that go far beyond A-to-B.
With operations spanning 60 locations, 27 warehouses, over 450 trucks and 500 drivers, Visy Logistics moves more than nine million tonnes of freight annually across Australia. It’s one of the nation’s top five linehaul providers, and a major player in intermodal transport, warehousing, and global forwarding.
“We’re primarily an industrial logistics business,” explained Wayne Boxshall, Country Manager Australia. “That includes everything from paper reels, bottles and resin to timber, bricks and, of course, steel. We’re active in recycled scrap, both for Visy and for several steel companies.”
End-to-end solutions with a steel focus
While Visy is a relatively new name in logistics circles, it brings the weight of the broader Visy business behind it — one of Australia’s most recognised names in manufacturing, packaging and recycling.
“Our real point of difference is supply chain insight,” said Boxshall. “Because we manage Visy’s own industrial freight end-to-end, we understand what’s at stake for operations. ”
For steel companies, we understand those needs: tailored, high-compliance services across a wide range of product types, from coil, bar, tube, sheet and more.
“Steel transport requires rigorous load restraint systems, high safety standards, and reliability.”

Purpose-built for heavy industry
Visy Logistics operates several key divisions: metro and interstate transport, intermodal (rail and road containers), global forwarding and bulk transport.
The business has made significant investments in productivity vehicles, such as A-doubles, to maximise payloads and reduce trips. Many trailers are purpose-built to meet the needs of specific clients or commodities, delivering not just cost savings, but environmental gains.
“If we can increase the payload per movement, we can reduce fuel use, lower emissions, and deliver greater efficiency for our customers,” Boxshall said.
Tech-driven safety and compliance
For Visy Logistics, technology and safety go hand-in-hand. All trucks are equipped with advanced vehicle tracking systems, live driver data monitoring, and mass management tools. Fatigue management is a priority, supported by in-cabin Guardian machines that detect micro-sleeps and alert drivers with seat vibrations.
“We’re serious about safety, especially in steel,” said Boxshall. “There are still parts of the industry that fall short on load restraint and compliance. We’re raising the bar.”
Visy Logistics is also investing in AI and data analytics to improve incident detection, optimise routes, and enhance warehouse safety. One promising project involves analysing existing CCTV footage to identify safety breaches in real time.
“We’re continuing to evolve and push ahead with innovation,” Boxshall said. “Digital transformation is a work in progress, but we’re committed to getting the most out of our tech stack.”

Building resilience with smarter networks
Visy’s deep supply chain expertise comes from real-world partnerships. The best examples of Visy Logistics’ supply chain expertise in action comes from two long-term customer relationships: Diageo and Campbell’s Soup.
Both company’s traditional rail transportation from Sydney and Shepparton to Western Australia has recently faced significant disruption.
To address the issue, Visy Logistics worked closely with Diageo and Campbell’s to re-engineer their transport approach. Visy designed a coastal shipping solution, combined with forward staging of stock in Perth, to ensure product availability regardless of disruptions.
The beauty of the model is in its cost neutrality “We were able to offset storage costs by utilising shipping time. Most importantly, it worked well for our customers.”
Relationships built on reliability
Long-term partnerships are built on reliability and results.
“We’ve focused on getting simple, everyday operations consistent from safety, compliance, service and cost” said Boxshall.
It’s an approach that resonates with customers across steel, construction, manufacturing, and infrastructure, especially in times of economic uncertainty.
“Even in the tough cycles, everyone still needs to find efficiency, that’s what we bring to the table; not just trucks and warehouses, but smart, strategic thinking that adds value over the long term.”
The logistics partner for the steel supply chain
With its national reach, multimodal capabilities, in-house technology, and safety-first mindset, Visy Logistics is well-positioned to support your steel logistics needs.
“We’re not just a freight provider,” said Boxshall. “We’re a partner who understands your business and has the scale, systems, and service culture to help you grow.”
